Rachel Elder is recent graduate with a BFA in Sculpture and Extended Media at VCU with a minor in art history. In the summer of 2014 she was a resident at D’Clinic studios in Lendava, Slovenia. Her work integrates images with physical and cultural landscape often using props or tools. She works with wood, fabric, painting, digital images and video to explore vernacular architecture, color, and the idea of portability in art making. She has shown work in Richmond, DC, and Slovenia.
This fall, she will be working as an apprentice at the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia learning large-scale screen-printing techniques. She hopes to continue making work as well as conducting travel research in Eastern Europe with the goal of entering the field of sustainable design.
